Harvey Johnson was born and reared in the Edgecombe County, North Carolina. His brother was Benjamin Johnson Sr. Harvey was married and it is known that he and his wife had one child, Mamie Johnson. It is not known if they had additional children. Harvey was a minister and would preach as a guest minister at Friendship Baptist Church.
